Charlotte Gooch Nelson

After graduation I moved to Calgary and worked for an insurance co. as an underwriter for 3yrs. I dated Ken Nelson at that time and we married in 1973. We operated a mixed farming operation and our son worked w/his dad, then bought land in Sask., ( where he and his family now live). Farming in two provinces has taken it's toll on the family so we gave up the cattle. It's been crazy but there's nothing better than farm life and wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

We've done a lot of traveling w/our kids., and good friends over the yrs. We bought our first r.v. in 1978 and went on family camp outs every summer, till August., which meant harvest was around the corner. We were fortunate to take a holiday every winter for a few wks., to points such as Disney World, Disneyland, Maritimes, Montreal, Vancouver, Hawaii, Martha's Vineyard ( Cape Cod) and the huge highlight was New York City a few times, as it was a place Ken wanted to see since he was a young man. Then in 2000 we went to Europe for a month and traveled to 13 countries. A trip of a lifetime.

I lost the love of my life in 2007 to cancer. He fought a very courageous battle for 7 yrs., never complaining of his illness and never giving up until the very end. I was so proud of his hard work ethics and living each day with determination to live well. He adored his family and only granddaughter at that time and loved his farm. I miss him deeply as do my children.

I still live and work on our farm in Alberta and help the kids in Sask. at seeding and harvest w/meals, being the gopher and spending time babysitting my adorable 3 grandchildren.

Staying at my friends Susies (my home away from home) and wondering how we ever got our big buts out of that little window on there veranda, when we snuck out at night to go garden raiding or over to terrorize Mr. Brag. ( I'm not even sure if that was his name.) We were so bad!!

Tormenting some of our teachers too. Hope they're out of rehab!! lol.

I enjoy baking, my farm work, gardening, and golfing (although the golf is certainly not a special skill!!) and babysitting my wonderful grandchildren.
